Installation
of multifeed satellite dish for 16 satellites
Owners
of the satellite dishs or digital systems are usually
following programs from one or two satellite: Astra on
19.2°E and/or HotBird on 13°E, because in most
cases they don’t know that they can also follow
many other digital programs on the rest satellites which
are close to Astra and HotBird and they are: Eutelsat
W1, W2, W3, W4, Sirius 2/3, Thor 1/2/3/Intelsat 707, Amos
1, Kopernikus, Astra 2, Turksat, Arabsat, Nilesat, Telecom,
Intelsat etc. Many peoples think that for that they need
some kind of special equipment in other words a rotor
and positioner but that problem can be solved on the other
way – with DiSEqC switch system which, today, comes
allready built in to the all digital satellite systems.
I must mention that here is strictely in question the
DiSEqC 1.2 system which allows two-sided communication
and multiple DiSEqC switch connection, because version
1.0 allows only connection of one DiSEqC switch. So, before
you are planning any modification, which is described
here, consult yourself with somebody if your satellite
reciver has DiSEqC 1.2 version because then you can do
everything what is here described!
DiSEqC is contracion of Digital Satellite Equipement Control
and is in use from 1996. This system was developed by
Eutelsat and it works on a principle of 22kHz tone generator
which is creating inside satellite receiver. Namely, that
tone is then sent in fast intervals, in other words, it
is going on and off instantly so it results with digital
signal, because you can compare turning on and off with
the format 1 and 0 which are digital signal!
There is few versions of DiSEqC. Simpliest version is
the 1.0 which enables simple overlap of the DiSEqC switch
and enables use of one DiSEqC switch which can have from
2 to 4 LNB entrances.
The 1.2 version enables, whith all that what was preaviously
described, and communication between receiver and DiSEqC
switch with rotor-motor for turning the dish. It enables
the control of more switches and here we will get down
with it the most.
The 2.0 and 2.1 versions or 2.3 version enables
advanced communication between satellite reciver and peripheral
equipment: LNB, motor and switches. Today the most common
is 1.0 version but there is a large number of recivers
with 1.2 or higher version, for example Aston Xena 1700
with 2.3 version.
But one step at the time!
Before you start with any kind of modification on your
satellite equpment check first if your satellite reciver
supports DiSEqC standard and which version. This system
requires 1.2 or higher version so if you don’t have
it you can’t make any modifications which are described
here. Version is shown in most cases on the reciver or
in the reciver’s manual. If reciver doesn’t
have DiSEqC you will have to forget on all this and get
one which supports DiSEqC.
I need to mention here that it’s not important if
is analog or digital reciver in question because DiSEqC
works independately so that this system can be used either
for analog or digital recivers but in the analog system
you wount get to much concerning amount of programs.
First you must decide from which satellite you want
to get programs, write it down and then go to get all
necessary equipment: LNB’s, DiSEqC switches and
maybe satellite dishs. If you want to recive two satellites
on one dish, for example Astra 1 and HotBird then the
dish which diameter is 90 cm will be enough and if you
want to recive more satellites then you’ll need
bigger dish, for example for 4-6 satellites you’ll
need dish with diameter 110-150 cm deppends which satellites
you want to watch or how good the signal is which you
can recive in your place. Then you’ll have to get
coacsial cable to connect LNB with DiSEqC switches, then
the needed number of F-conectors and installation kit.
Here we will show you the installation of the satellite
system for 16 satellites on 4 dishs and one LNB entrance.
If your satellite reciver has two LNB entrances theoreticly
you can install 32 LNB’s in other words watch the
same number of satellite positions on both entrances.
This is hard to make in praxis because usually you can
watch arround 10 satellite positions and others are emitting
in C-zone and you’ll have to have bigger dish or
they don’t have some good chioce of programs.
Before installation you need to turn off your satellite
reciver from power supply and disconecct the cable which
is coneccted on LNB.
If your dish is allready set up on Astra 1 and/or HotBird
don’t touch it unless you have intention to replace
it with dish which has bigger diameter or if you plan
to put more LNB’s on it.
If you don’t have dish which is installed you’ll
have to start from a scratch with the procedure of instalation
for one satellite, and that manual you can find on this
website.
If you want to watch programs from 16 satellites on 4
dishs it means that you need 5 DiSEqC switches and 16
LNB’s and recuired lenght of coaccsial cable for
conecction. we reccomend dishs with diameter at least
110-120 cm and if you have those with bigger diameter
it won’t be bad to use them for satellites whith
weaker signal.
Let’s say that you want to watch programs
from next satellite positions:
| Astra
1 |
Hot
Bird |
Eutelsat
W1 |
Sirius |
| Astra
2 |
Astra
3 |

Note:
In the tables are mentioned combinations of satellites
which can, but don’t have to, respond the possibility
for installation! It menas that some can be installed
with any kind of probles and that some groups are hard
to combine like for example group 4.
When you know on which dish goes satellites you can begin
with installation. First you must secure four dish supports
either on the wall or on a pillar in the garden or in
a private plot. We reccomend that if you have your own
garden obligatory put all dishs on pillars in garden because
further installation and maintenance will be easier. On
one bigger pillar you can install two or even tri dishs
what deppends on their diameter and the size of pillar
and his stabillity
First you install one dish by the manual for installation
of satellite dish for receive from more satellites –
multifeed in special chapter on this website, and then
install all other in the row and alway control the quality
of the signal and picture on every position. When you
install all 4 dishs and you’re sure that all is
very well secured and that they are set up on the most
quality signal you can start connecting coacsiall cable
with DiSEqC switches. The lenght of cable depends on size
of dish and distance to the switches. We recomend that
you place DiSEqC switches as near as possible to every
dish and you’ll save something on your cable.
First cut cables on the lenght of arround 150 cm and connect
them on LNB’s and wrap up with insulating tape or
with something else insulate LNB’s from humidity.
After that wrap up cables arround dish support and then
connect it on the first DiSEqC 4/1 switch so that cable
form LNB 1 goes in entrance 1 (or A, depends how is it
marked). Each cable secure very good and then isolate.
When you’ve connected
all LNB cables with your DiSEqC switches take another
four cables and remaining fifth DiSEqC switch and then
connect with cable exits from remaining switches
on the fifth one so that on entrance 1 or A connect exit
from switch 1, then on entrance 2 or B exit from switch
2 and so on until you connect it all. After that connect
with cable the exit from the last DiSEqC switch on your
satellite receiver on LNB entrance.
Don’t forget to insulate all conntacts on all switches
because humidity can do severe damage to the strenght
of the signal and beside that can destroy LNB and the
switches.
After all this you nedd to adjust
DiSEqC option on your satellite receiver.
Trough main menu come to the option usually called Installation
and search for DiSEqC options 1 and 2. Option 1 represent
one LNB which is nearer to the satellite dish and DiSEqC
option 2 represent the one whis is nearer to the satellite
receiver and that’s the fifth one, the last LNB
(Note: This system is valid for satellite receiver Force
DuoMaster and DMaster 1122 which have built in the DiSEqC
level 1.2 and have this options allready marked on the
menu for installation. On your receiver you must search
for this options if your receiver supports them).
Aftere that adjust marks on every 1 and 2 option for DiSEqC.
Here you adjust numbers from 1 to 4 and various combinations
of two numbers which indicates exaxtly which LNB is currently
in use. For example mark ¼ means that LNB which
is connected on entrance 1 or A on fourth DiSEqC switch.
There are next combinations: 1,1; 1,2; 1,3; 1,4; 2,1;
2,2; 2,3; 2,4; 3,1; 3,2; 3,3; 3,4; 4,1; 4,2; 4,3; i 4,4.
Off course for detailed and more completed explanation
look up in your satellite receiver manual.
When you adjusted all, under condition that you’ve
connect everything properly and adjust is right, all programs
from choosed satellites must be shown.
Now you can enjoy in large number of new and egzotic programs
from those you’ve been used to.
If your satellite receiver has two LNB entrances, like
Force DuoMaster 1030, then you connect next 16 LNB’s
or dishs and watch even more programs, even thou that’s
theoreticly very hard to accomplish.
Many people will tell you that it would be more practical
to get a motor with less material and expenses. That’s
correct but some viewers of satellite programs like real
challenges and this is after all intended for them.
